The Infant Massage Information Service (IMIS)
IMIS is the largest provider of infant massage training and has the largest membership base for infant massage instructors within Australia. Established in 2000, we have been working to ensure individuals receive professional training with the most recent information on research and effective techniques. We are acknowledged, endorsed and accredited by: IARC; The Australian Traditional Medicine Society; The Australian College of Midwives; The Association of Medicine Society Midplus; and The Association of Massage Therapists.
We are here to help - If we can be of assistance in providing information on baby massage techniques, recommendations, fact sheets, certificate training, or any other matter relating to massage for infants and children, please don't hesitate to contact us. Our programs offer the most in-depth information available on massage and touch therapy for infants, pre-term infants, infants suffering from wind, colic, constipation and reflux.

The last financial year has been a difficult one for the education industry in many countries; as a result of funding cutbacks, changes to export education and difficulties in the economies of those countries generally. Despite the doom and gloom, there have been some bright spots in education for some. We have seen reports from IARC members reflect on triple figure and double figure growth.
The post secondary education industry appears to be in a very fluid state currently. Colleges who became over dependant on overseas students have closed down or been forced to contract, in Australia, the UK and other countries. Government support for education has been changing dramatically in many ways. For example, one member recently reported that audit fees in the UK have risen to £20,000 per annual audit.
The UK government have trebled university fees. I was recently informed that university horticultural education in Australia has declined so much there are expected to be zero horticulture degree graduates in Australia in a couple of years from now.
IARC has lost some members and gained some others over the past year. On balance, membership numbers have increased – we hit our increase in membership target of 20%.
Over the past year we have produced newsletters, dealt with an increasing amount of correspondence, and focussed strongly on development and promotion of the web site, in an effort to extend our profile. The website content has been increased and improved, with particular attention being given to supporting the business of members.
The secretary, Jade Pollock has been extremely diligent, and worked hard on developing the IARC brand this year, within the limited resources available. We should all be appreciative of her outstanding effort.
The committee, as always, are both enthusiastic and committed, giving their time freely to a cause that they all very strongly believe in. I thank them all for their support, and look forward to the year ahead, with optimism for further growth in IARC.
ACS Distance Education - Recent Success ACS Distance Education recently announced the launch of their fantastic new eBooks online bookstore. ACS Distance Education’s eBooks are not like most other eBooks: their eBooks contain many high resolution coloured images and illustrations. (This is different to many of the eBooks available else where who seem to lack the illustrations). eBooks are a great resource to compliment your study or just to read for pleasure… Check them out at http://ebook.acsedu.com/

Some colleges and institutions spend up to 30% of their income on developing course content. Some colleges and institutions pay agents 25% of the course fees as a commission. Many spend over 50% on compliance, accreditation and recognition matters. There are also many colleges and institutions who spend 25% on advertising and marketing. Some colleges budget to spend 20% on infrastructure payments such as rent or property. Staff wages can often account for 50% of costs. A few take between 10 and 20% out as profit… and there are lots of other costs that have not been mentioned.
How much funding does it take to deliver good education? If these calculations are in fact correct, this means colleges and institutions spend something between 200-250% of their budget.
Maybe this is why many colleges are closing down? What are you going to cut out in order to avoid going out of business? What areas can you save in?
